A Milestone for Freedom, Inclusion, and Human Dignity in Africa
From 18th–21st May 2026, history was made as JDPCI Abuja and the Catholic Bishop Conference of England and Wales – GrowEdo UK Support Group, with generous funding support from CBM International, successfully convened the inaugural Pathways to Freedom Africa Network (PFAN) Summit 2026 in Abuja, Nigeria.
Bringing together participants, experts, faith leaders, government representatives, civil society actors, and survivors from across Africa, the Summit served as a powerful platform for collective action against human trafficking under the theme:
“Strategies for Ending Human Trafficking: Reaching the Most Marginalized.”
We were deeply honored by the presence of Cardinal Fabio Baggio, representing The Vatican and conveying the solidarity and commitment of Pope Leo to the global fight against human trafficking and modern slavery.
A defining feature of the Summit was its strong commitment to inclusion, with more than 21% participation by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), ensuring that the voices of those most often excluded were heard, valued and integrated into discussions and solutions.
Over few impactful days, participants exchanged knowledge, strengthened partnerships, shared best practices and developed actionable strategies to prevent trafficking, protect vulnerable populations and promote survivor-centered responses across Africa.
The PFAN Summit has laid a strong foundation for a continent-wide movement rooted in collaboration, justice, inclusion and human dignity. The networks built, commitments made and resolutions adopted will continue to influence policies, programs and advocacy efforts long after the Summit’s conclusion.
Together, we are building pathways to freedom and creating a future where every person can live free from exploitation and trafficking.
